Aston Martin will give the Vantage and the DB9 facelifts due by 2013 and 2014

p22 Aston MartinAston Martin will be reworking on the looks of the Vantage and DB9 that will be due in 3 or 4 years time. The restyling will somehow stretch the life of the vehicles as the car manufacturer postponed plans to totally revamp the models due to financial issues. The basic dimensions of the DB9 and the Vantage though will be untouched.

According to an insider, Aston Martin will not be going to kick off things from scratch but make most of the excellent technology that they have in their disposal. The facelifts will be give the two models new styling for the exteriors and will also overhaul the interiors.

Aston Martin has not come up with a final design yet but they hint that the DB9 will take some inspiration from the One-77 limited series. The new DB9 will also take the flowing lines on the air vents on its side just like the Rapide and the Vantage look.

The carmaker is also set on reducing the weight of the two vehicles by using lightweight materials. The current model of the DB9 tips the scale at 1760 kilos. The British car marques plan to trim it down to about 1500 kg.

There will also be engine upgrades for the DB9 tagged as VH500 and the Vantage coined as VH600. The focus of the tweaks will be on the improvement of fuel efficiency and reducing the carbon dioxide emissions rather than jacking up the performance.

Who Doesn’t Want to Ride (in a) Sofia?

IDEA Sofia conceptWhat is one of the curviest, sleekest, hottest things to ever come out of Italy?

Sophia Loren, am I right?

Well, it is partly in homage to that beautifully aging siren of the stage and screen that Turin based automaker IDEA unveils the Sofia concept.

If the IDEA manufacturer seems at all familiar to you, by the way, you might remember them from their famed ERA concept.

The Sofia will definitely be giving that a run for its money.

Quoted as being completely Italian, so defined by its overall look, its entire shape, its feeling of elegance, and, of course, its name.

Both in the USA and in the UK, there's no driving without having solid Insurance on your car. If you're looking to save money on insurance (and let's be honest, who isn't?), head over to Farmers for the best in free quotes!

Geneva Gets a Gander at Citroen’s New Concept

Citroën Survolt conceptI can’t quite say why, but I am having a serious Knight Rider moment right now.

And yes, although I hate to admit it, I am just about old enough to remember the Hoff’s original talking car.

(Incidentally, I also remember that K.I.T.T. was voiced by none other than the suave old dude who played Boy Meets World’s Mr. Feeney.)

Anyway. I get a Knight Rider kind of vibe from Citroen’s new concept, the Survolt. The French manufacturer has certainly given it a much needed, modern, ultra sleek twist, however.

Or maybe I am just a Francophone at heart, who simply happens to live in Boston.

The Mini Countryman: Not So Mini

Mini CountrymanThis is how I want to ride, I tell you what!

This picture is thanks to a leak that no one expected — especially not BMW. Part of their Mini division, I give you the Mini Countryman, a brand new crossover that will not be officially unveiled until Geneva’s upcoming motor show.

This is the very first model in the popular range of Minis that has not only four doors, but also all wheel drive. The idea is to offer much more freedom in terms of capability and space. Yet the brand has kept its design, not to mention all its premium qualities and its ease of handling.

It may not seem like a dream car, and yet there is something unquestionably luxurious and funky about the Mini brand.

Well, I invite you to take a look at the Bertone Pandion concept. Do you need a moment? So do I. Take all the time you need; I will be waiting for you in the next paragraph.

Ready? Okay. I’m not sure I even need to say anything about this vehicle. What you are seeing is one of the very first pictures available of the Pandion concept by Stile Bertone.

Let’s Talk About Tires: 2

2tires

Speed ratings are actually found on the sidewall of the tire in basically what you will come to know as the service description.  The letter following the two or even three digit numerical load index will actually dictate exactly what type of tire and what speed you can drive your car up to.

The table looks something like this:

S: 112 mph
T: 118 mph
H: 130 mph
V: 149 mph
W: 168 mph
Y: 186 mph

These are just a few of the letters that you can look for.  Generally speaking, the tires that are going to come on your cars and trucks are going to be ‘s’ or ‘t’ and race cars are generally going to have the other letters.  It all just depends.
